Times Square Dead or Alive? By M. Christine Boyer

I feel as if my perspective is mildly biased regarding new vs. old Times Square because my ‘generation’ has never truly experienced the original New York junction, but is merely subjective to what we view today. I visited NYC a year ago and I was completely astonished by the charismatic of bright lights and moving advertisements that now represents modern Time Square as I know. I felt the space was just so vibrant, energetic and powerful; I just couldn’t get enough. NYC is such a fast pace, large and incredible city where technology is at its greatest and architecture is continuously booming. It is a collective place where people from all over the city and essentially the world walk side by side. Although the original feeling has been supposedly ‘taken over’ I think in a way something else has been created in its shadow. Yes this may be completely different, but in its own way it’s prevailing in itself! This brings me to the previous article, “Homebodies of Vacation”. I don’t fully agree that everything should be kept or even replicated in order to preserve what was in the past, but rather I think some things need to stand out and speak for what’s in the future.
